The article considers metaphor as a lexical means of implementing the conceptual category of emotivity in speech — one of the most pressing problems that is deeply and comprehensively studied in modern linguistics. The article describes the specifics of reflecting the category of emotivity in the Arabic linguistics tradition, presents the views of Arab philologists on the metaphor that performs an expressive-semantic function in speech, and also shows the features of the representation of emotions through this trope in modern oral and written speech of Arabs in various functional styles.

The world of emotions and feelings was realized and described by the ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle. Emotions manifest themselves in all spheres of human activity. The complex character of the verbal manifestation of emotions, as well as the nonverbal aspect of the representation of emotions in speech, is noted. In this regard, Sh. Bally wrote: "If... If we take into account how the "average" person, the one who creates and changes language, is arranged, we will understand that the speech created by him first of all expresses feelings" [Bally, 1961, p.23].
Currently, many sciences are aimed at analyzing and studying emotions in people's activities. One of the universal basic categories that has special means of expressing emotions in language and is represented at all its levels is the category of emotivity. The growth of interest in the linguistics of emotions is associated with intralinguistic factors, with the development of a number of scientific areas: communicative, pragmatic, cognitive, cultural studies, etc.
